Sustainable Living Workshops

New this year — hands-on sessions in sustainable living.

Spring (Mar – May)
Sundays @ 1pm
Summer/Fall (Jun – Oct)
Saturdays @ 9am

These are working sessions, not lectures. You will be in the beds, at the compost pile or at the bench, and you will go home with something you made and knowing how you made it.

Topics we run

  • Soil and compost — building a pile that actually heats, and reading what your soil is telling you
  • Seed starting — timing, light and potting on, for people without a greenhouse
  • Preserving — water-bath canning, drying and fermenting the surplus
  • Keeping birds — what ducks and geese need in a small back yard
  • Season extension — cold frames and low tunnels for a longer harvest

What to expect

Sessions run about two hours. Come in clothes you do not mind getting soil on, and bring water in summer. Tools are provided.

No experience is needed for any of these, and there is no such thing as a beginner's question here — most of what we know came from getting it wrong in this exact spot first.

Topics and sign-up details are coming soon.
